JSC Svetogorsk completed the $50 million modernization of PM#4, www.lesprom.ru informs. Growing demand for office papers in Russia led to installing a new paper cutting and packaging line. This was the first stage of investment program aimed at boosting Svetogorsk production capacities and paper quality.
According to Thomas Kadien, president of International Paper Europe, Russia is a strategic market for International Paper with annual demand increase of 15–20%. He underlined that the current investment program is to strengthen IP’s position both in Russia and in Europe.
The mill also reconstructs PM#1 adding to it a new coating line for liquid packaging board production.
The next stage will be the construction of 200 000 tons/yr chemical-thermomechanical pulp line, which is scheduled to start up in 2006.
