According to the Russian Guild of Media Publishers, the country is short of newspaper, www.gipp.ru informs. Pulp and paper mills failed with contractual deliveries for the last quarter 2005. In December, printers got the orders booked for October.
The Guild is sure that the situation in 2006 will be still worse. By the middle of December, publishing houses did not get any guarantees as for future deliveries.
The demand for high quality newspaper for full-color printing in Russia increases constantly, while it makes only 5% of total output volumes of Russian newspaper mills.
Moreover, local producers export up to 80% of their paper, and the import duty for newspaper is 15%.
