Mondi Business Paper Syktyvkar increased board sales at the market of Russia for 16% in 2005 compared with the year before.
According to Alexei Khvalynsky, director of Mondi Packaging Paper Sales Russia and CIS, the leading grade is top-liner board (+29% versus 2004). Total sales of mottled white board grew 14%.
Khvalynsky mentioned positive demand trends at European markets, supporting attempts for price increases. Shut-downs of several large European units producing recycled fibre based grades and high demand in the USA resulted in decreasing volumes of cheap kraft-liner. He hopes it means better price policy for Russia and CIS.
Mondi Business Paper Syktyvkar produces Komipak for diary market, Komiwhite and Komimottled liners, Komibrown kraft-liner. PM21 churns out more that 200 thousand tons annually, one third going for export.
According to sales director Alexei Shamin, Mondi Business Paper remained the leader of office and printing paper markets in Russia and CIS, boosting its sales for 40.5% compared with 2004. Sales of À/À+ papers (Maestro Extra Triotec, IQ selection smooth, IQ Premium Triotec) increased 52%, sales of Â/Â+ papers (Maestro Special, IQ allround) grew 74%, sales Ñ/Ñ+ papers were up 71%. The company shipped twice as much special papers, 16% more offset grades. The leading office grade is Snegurochka brand by Syktyvkar Mill (+52%).
Commenting on the situation, Alexei Shamin underlined that by now Russia overproduces office papers, though the market grows 20% annually. Soon the producers will be unable to increase capacity along with the demand. It will stop the destructive tendency for price reduction, characteristic for the end of 2005
