The output of Russian pulp mills remained on the level of 2004, www.bumprom.ru informs with reference to the Federal Bureau of Statistics of Russia.
Pulping output increased 0.2%; production of market pulp grew 0.4%. The country manufactured 1.7% more paper including 1.5% more newspaper, meanwhile having produced 3.5% less offset paper, 13.2% less writing and copybook paper, 28.5% less coated paper. Mills churned out 4.5% more paperboard, 8.1% more paper sacks, 26.4% more paper and containerboard packaging.
According to Bumprom Association, beginning 2005 productive capacity amounted to 7 million tons for pulping, 2.7 million tons for market pulp, 4.6 million tons for paper, 2.4 million tons for newspaper, 3.3 million tons for paperboard, 2.2 million tons for containerboard. Pulp, paper and newspaper lines were loaded for 85%, market pulp and paperboard lines for 90%, containerboard facilities for 100% (including new start-ups).
The market demands more high-quality papers: printing and writing papers, coated, laminated, design papers, tissue, etc. Local producers are ready for growing demand only in packaging sector. The rest of products is to be imported.
