Enterprises belonging to Ilim Pulp churned out 2.52 million tons of pulp and paper products in 2005, which constituted an upturn of 4.5% compared with the year before, the company’s press-service informs. The production of market pulp increased 3.6% to 1.47 million tons, cardboard production grew 4.1% to 707.3 thousand tons, paper production rose 17.4% to 280.9 thousand tons. Pulping output totaled 2.4 million tons (+3.5%).
Ilim Pulp continues to cut down supplies of raw materials from its own timber companies in order to optimize production. In 2005, its subsidiaries supplied 2.4% less wood for pulp mills (6.65 million m3), while volumes of third-party companies increased 11.8% to 6.23 million m3.
According to Sergei Kostylev, general director of Ilim Pulp, the company focused on holding leading positions at Russian and Chinese markets boosting its capacities and rising general efficiency. $20 million reconstruction of Ust-Ilim Timber Complex aimed at increasing its annual output up to 630 thousand tons was one of the main projects.
The second important sphere is loosening environmental burden. New $25 million evaporator system and $10 million reconstruction of recovery unit at Kotlass Pulp and Paper Mill made it possible to increase production capacity without additional ecological impact.
