The Chinese newsprint producer, Guangzhou Paper, has started trial runs on a new 170,000 tonne/yr machine at its mill in the Haizhu district Guangzhou city, Guangdong province. Commercial production is expected to follow before the end of this month.
The company also plans to splash out RMB 150 million ($19 million) on modernizing the plant's 150,000 tonne/yr PM 8 early next year. The overhaul is aimed at improving the unit's output quality and boosting its capacity by 10%.
On top of that, the firm intends to build a greenfield newsprint mill in the district of city, some 50 km southeast of its existing mill. Startup of the plant's first machine, a 300,000 tonne/yr unit, is slated for the first half of 2008. The facility will eventually replace the mill in Haizhu, with PMs 1 and 8 to be transferred to the greenfield site.
