Russia: Ilim Pulp boosts capacities

Ilim Pulp Corp. has completed the first $20 million stage of the project aimed at boosting bleached softwood pulping capacities of Ust-Ilim Timber Complex (Irkutsk region) from 532 thousand tons to 630 thousand tons. Metso Paper and Andritz supplied necessary equipment.

By now Ilim Pulp started the second stage in order to increase of softwood pulping output up to 700 thousand tons. Harris Group was chosen for implementation of end-to-end workflow automation and partial modernization of current pulp lines. Ust-Ilim Timber Complex churns out both bleached and unbleached kraft pulp (61 thousand tons).

Commenting on the project progress, Russian Bumprom Association underlines its role in cancellation of custom duties for imported equipment not produced in Russia. The decree of the Government of Russia dated March 24, 2006, decreases the duties for equipment used in pulp and paper industry from 5–10% to 0%.
