On June 2, 2006, the Government of Russia issued the decree "On Export Customs Tariffs for Individual Papers and Boards", www.unipack.ru reminds. According to Alexei Khvalynsky, director of Mondi Packaging Paper Sales Russia and CIS, concession of export duties for cardboard will contribute to modernization of production facilities and raising competitive capacity of goods.
On commenting on the situation, Khvalynsky underlined stable growth of cardboard demand in Russia during the first six months 2006 due to high capacity utilization rates in USA and closing unprofitable European mills. In January–June Russian producers churned out 10% more corrugated packaging compared with the same period a year ago. Ukrainian market grew 12%.
For Mondi Business Paper Syktyvkar concession of export duties turned into boosting sales of its main product — top linered board. Khvalynsky believes the company will strengthen its position in Russia and CIS countries as well as at strategically interesting European markets.
