Russia: Greenpeace looking forward to new laws

Each year Russia generates 28 million tons of solid domestic waste. With the gross domestic product growing at 3% to 9% annually, its volumes will increase 1.5 million tons each year, www.unipack.ru informs.

Legislations are ready concerning packaging and recycled resources that can change the current situation with waste stimulating recycling activities. The law "On Packaging" introduces the deposit value, making the producer responsible for gathering and safe recycling of packaging waste. The law "On Recycled Resources" covers other scrap types.

On September 6, the International Day against Waste Burning, Greenpeace carried out a vigil of the governmental building. They demanded speeding-up the process of adopting the recycling laws, imposing a ban on burning solid waste, stimulating recycling instead waste burial.
