On October 11, Igor Bitkov, General Director of North-West Timber Company, spoke at the International technical conference "Modern Technologies for Pulp and Paper Industry", held in St. Petersburg during the International Forest Forum.
He described current reconstruction and modernization projects at the enterprises belonging to the company, having mentioned a start-up of a new paper line #3 at Neman Pulp and Paper Mill, a recycling line from Kadant-Lamort at Kamennogorsk Offset Paper Mill, a new pulp line under construction from GL&V with TCF bleach process at Neman Mill.
According to Bitkov, North-West Timber Company controls 28% of Russian market of copying and writing papers, and plans to increase its share up to 40% by 2010. For the offset market of Russia the figures were named at 21% (2006) and 40% (by 2010), accordingly.
The share of North-West Timber Company at the world market of wallpapers was evaluated at 5% with the planned increase up to 10%. For the market of greaseproof papers the figures were named at 6% (2006) and 15% (by 2010), accordingly.
On commenting on the situation, Igor Bitkov underlined: "North-West Timber Company is unique for Russia. While buying pulpwood abroad, the company produces value added products competitive at foreign markets. We plan to follow this strategy as it is the key for building a successful future of Russian pulp and paper industry".
