Speaking at the 11th Adam Smith Conference "Pulp and Paper Industry of Russia and CIS countries" (October 17-19), Rinat Starkov, Mondi Business Paper director, named absence of state policy and delay with a new Forestry Code to be the main problems of the forest sector of Russia.
According to him, the new Forestry Code should cover the questions of prolonged lend terms (up to 99 years), differential rents, standards for candidates wishing to take part in lend auctions, partial state financing of logging roads construction and dredging operations for rafting.
Syktyvkar Timber Complex belonging to Mondi Business Paper consumes 3 million m3 of wood annually, 40% of it certified according to FSC. By 2009 the enterprise plans to make it 100% certified wood.
