Ilim Pulp plans a wide-scale investment program in China intending to spend for it more than $750 million by 2009.
According to Lesprom.ru, the aim is to strengthen leading positions of its pulp and paper products at the strategic market. At present Ilim Pulp is the largest exporter of pulp and paper products to China (18% of imported softwood pulp and 20% of imported kraft liner).
The first deliveries to China took place in 1996. At the same time the company opened a local office. Now Ilim Pulp exports to Asia bleached softwood pulp, bleached hardwood pulp, bleached softwood pulp, and kraft liner. Beginning from 2003 the company added viscose pulp to the list; from 2004 it sells lignosulphonates to Chinese enterprises.
After 10 years of cooperation, export volumes of Russian pulp and paper products to China grew from 50 thousand tons to 906 thousand tons in 2005.
During the official visit of the delegation of North-Western regions of Russia to the country, Ilim Pulp received an award as one of the best partners of China.
