Kimberly-Clark (K-C) Brasil has completed the transfer of a 25,000 tpy tissue paper machine from its Bacraft mill in Bahia state, northeast Brazil, to the Mogi das Cruzes plant, in Sao Paulo state, southeast Brazil. "We started production on May 9," K-C Brasil said in a statement.
The company shut down the Bacraft mill in July 2006, citing low operating rates and a need for investment. The move was part of a restructuring plan to optimize operations. As part of the plan, K-C Brasil is also to close its 36,000 tpy Cruzeiro tissue paper mill in Sao Paulo state, southern Brazil, by the end of the month. "The Cruzeiro plant has operated with losses in recent years," K-C Brasil said in a statement.
With the PM from the Bacraft mill, the Mogi das Cruzes plant will produce 70,000 tpy of tissue paper. The firm also produces 50,000 tpy of tissue at the Correia Pinto mill, Santa Catarina state, southern Brazil.
