Ukraine: New import duties for paper and board products
On June 23, Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has passed in its second reading the Bill #7354 “On amendments to the customs tariffs of Ukraine” providing for new import duties including paper and board products.

Ukraine: Zhidachev Mill ahead of schedule
In May, cardboard line of Zhidachev Pulp and Paper Mill manufactured 1490 tons of containerboard (101.7% of the plan) and 420 tons of Bristol board. Each month the mill exports about 100 tons of cardboard to Germany.

Russia: Mondi Business Paper Sales announces results
According to Alexei Shamin, sales director of Mondi Business Paper Sales (Moscow office of Mondi Business Paper), in May sales volumes skyrocketed to 50% compared with May 2004. Net sales of Ñ/Ñ+ papers grew 30% (versus March 2005) and doubled compared with the same period a year ago. Sales of special papers (including Color Copy, Maestro Color è IQ Color) in May increased 19% versus March 2005. Sales volumes of Snegurochka brand increased 71% compared with May 2004 and 18% compared with December 2004 (the best month for the brand).

Ukraine: UAH 16 million for modernization of Zhidachev Mill
According to Alexander Pitula, general director of Zhidachev Pulp and Paper Mill, in 2005 the mill plans to invest in modernization and reconstruction projects UAH 16 million (app. $3.2 million). In 2004 investment costs totaled UAH 18.2 million (app. $3.64 million).

After four months, the output of Ukrainian of pulp and paper, printing and publishing industries is 16.9% more than during the same period a year ago, State Committee of Statistics of Ukraine informs.

Russia: Second turn of Kappa St. Petersburg is launched
On June 7, the second turn of Kappa St. Petersburg converting plant producing corrugated board and packaging was officially launched in Vsevolzhsk (Leningrad region), www.bumprom.ru informs. The total amount of investments is $16 million. The project covers enlarging production area by 8000 sq. m. and boosting production capacity to 120 million sq. m.
