Ukraine: Rivne region wishes to ban timber export
Vasilyi Chervonyi, chairman of Rivne regional administration, addressed Ukrainian President Victor Yushchenko asking to ban the export of timber from the region, www.lesprom.ru informs. According to him, regional forests are reducing while export volumes continue to grow.

Russia: Arkhangelsk Mill announces 2004 results
In 2004 net profit of Arkhangelsk Pulp and Paper Mill increased 1.02% to RUR 472.12 million (app. $15.7 million), www.lesprom.ru informs citing Prime-TASS agency. Sales profit amounted to RUR 358 million (app. $12 million), which constituted a boost of 70.2%.

Belarus to have a newsprint mill in Shklov
Belarus is going to built a $400 million newsprint mill in Shklov, www.bumprom.ru informs. The talks with Finland, Russia and Iran are under way still with no concrete results. According to www.bumprom.ru, the government is ready to invest a quarter of the sum.

Russia: Volga to invest Euro 150 million in modernization
Volga Pulp and Paper Mill plans to invest up to Euro 150 million in modernization during next 5 years, www.bumprom.ru informs. According to Alexander Sonin, Volga’s general manager, Euro 70 million will be invested by the end of 2006.

Russia: Mondi Business Paper reports April results
In April Mondi Business Paper Syktyvkar manufactured 65.3 thousand tons of paper and cardboard products, which constituted a slight upturn of 1% compared with plan and 10% with April 2004, the company’s press-service informs. The mill cooked 46.3 thousand tons of pulp (+10%). Total pulping output since the beginning of the year comprised 183.8 thousand tons (+2% compared with 2004).

According to the information of Malin Paper Mill, during Q1 2005 it churned out 1.7 thousand tons of paper and 1.1 thousand tons of board, having boosted production output by 43.5% for paper and by 26% for board.*

JSC Svetogorsk is ready to invest $100 million in modernization project in order to improve quality of its products at global and local markets, www.bumprom.ru informs. Modernization of A4 papermaking machines is a part of the project. As a result, the company hopes to increase A4 paper production by 10–30%.

Ukraine: Problematic stock of Rubezhansky Mill (continued)
On April 7, the Superior economic court pronounced its decision for the case of Rubezhansky Cardboard and Packaging Mill and Ukrainian Stock Exchange. According to Alexander Lyamzin, deputy director of Rubezhansky Mill, the bourse is to return UAH 13 million auction guarantee fee (app. $2.5 million).
