Ukraine: Pulp and paper industry in January
Ukrainian enterprises of pulp and paper industry announced combined results. General production growth for paper and cardboard amounted to 12% or 56 thousand tons compared with the first month 2003. The output of industrial packaging totaled 48.4 thousand sq.m (+22.2% versus January 2004).

Russia: Ilim Pulp reports production growth
During 2004, the enterprises belonging to Ilim Pulp boosted production 4.2% up to 2.407 million tons, the company’s press-service reports. The output of market pulp increased 3.3% to 1.421 million tons, cardboard — by 6.7% to 679.5 thousand tons, paper — by 3.2% to 239.4 thousand tons. The pulping output grew 3.8% to 2.368 million tons.

Russia: World Bank Group recommends stop reconstruction of Baikal Mill
Experts of the World Bank Group recommend stopping from February 15 financing of the reconstruction of Baikal Pulp and Paper Mill, www.lesprom.ru reports referring to Kommersant newspaper. According to Anatoly Malevsky, head of the environmental department for Irkutsk region, Continental Management Timber Company managing the mill lags behind the financial schedule for 1.5 years. The World Bank Group granted Baikal Pulp and Paper Mill $22.4 million credit on a security of Russian government. The mill is to invest $11.1 million more.

North-West Timber Company announces annual results
In 2004 Neman Pulp and Paper Mill (Kaliningrad region) belonging to North-West Timber Company increased production output by 4.7% to 73.97 thousand tons. The mill churned out 77.97 million of paper items — copy books, drawing albums, etc.
